Our Story: From Kyoto to You
Tatcha was born out of a personal search for peace, healing, and authenticity.In 2009, after struggling with acute skin distress and corporate burnout, our founder Vicky Tsai embarked on a life-changing journey to Kyoto, Japan.
There, she had a fateful encounter with a modern-day geisha that introduced her to a centuries-old world of mindful self-care, pristine ingredients, and a text dating back to 1813 detailing classical Japanese beauty rituals. By adopting these gentle, time-tested practices—rooted in the philosophy that skin and mind are of the same root (hinou dokon)—her skin and spirit healed. Inspired to share these treasures with the world, she launched Tatcha.
